Can Covid Cause Eye Complications.
Doctors estimate that between 1% and 3% of COVID-19 patients will develop conjunctivitis or inflammation of the superficial white tissues of the eye. It occurs when a tissue called conjunctiv which covers the white of your eye or the inside of your eyelids, becomes infected by the virus. Some of the signs if your eye is affected can be redness, swelling or itching in the eye.
Conjunctivitis may not always indicate that you have COVID-19. Numerous viruses, germs, chemicals, and allergens that might irritate your eyes are other more common causes.
With medications and in many cases without medications many types of conjunctivitis due to viral causes may disappear in approximately 1-2 weeks.
If you contact your eyes and subsequently touch people or objects without washing or disinfecting your hands while you have COVID-19 conjunctivitis, you could spread SARS-CoV-2 to them. Avoid touching your face, especially the mucous membranes in your mouth, nose, and eyes.
Dry eyes, redness, itching, fuzzy vision, sensitivity to light, and the perception of an obstruction in the eye are some additional ocular/ eye symptoms that might occur. One third of COVID patients may have eye problems, even if it is only red eyes that do not bother them. People on ventilators frequently develop a type of eye irritation called chemosis, a swelling or bulging of the eye membranes and eyelids. Some eye conditions are not obvious to the patient or an observer.
Studies indicate that the virus might also be able to enter the body through the eyes, either by rubbing and the direct transmission of tears or through respiratory droplets that unavoidably rest on the eye.
